AAM Open House
9th March, 2024
The Architects Association of Macau held an open day for members at its Headquarters at Avenida do Coronel Mesquita No.2F, Macau. The activities included lectures, photography exhibition, visits and exchanges. More than 40 members, friends and students from architecture faculties participated, making the event lively.
The event was kicked off by the welcome speech of Arch. Christine Choi, President of AAM Board of Directors. Then, BD Vice-President Arch. Nuno Soares introduced the exhibition “AAM Headquarters – Av. do Coronel Mesquita 2F: A Sentimental Photographic Journey” and led the attendees on a guided tour of the venue. The photos were taken by Arch. Francisco Ricarte, who was commissioned by AAM, to capture the beauty of the venue through the lens.
After the free visit and tea break for communication, the second part of the activity was carried out. Mr. Simon Chan, Design Director of Far East Façade (Hong Kong) Ltd., gave a talk on project sharing, introducing the latest construction technologies and materials such as glass curtain walls through work cases. Later, AAM Fellow Members Council President Arch. Carlos Marreiros and Vice-President Arch. José Maneiras were invited to give a lecture on “The Architectural Legacy of Master Raúl Chorão Ramalho in Macau”. On behalf of AAM, President of General Assembly Arch. Ben Leong presented souvenirs to the speakers.
As member of international organizations such as UIA, ARCASIA and others, AAM as always, adhers to its mission, promotes the development of the Macau architect profession and serves the society. AAM thanks the Macau SAR Government for its continued support to the association and local architects, especially for allowing the association to borrow the facilities at Avenida do Coronel Mesquita No.2F, Macau - a two-story house with front and rear courtyards - as the Headquarters, being the home and spiritual place of Macau architects. The premises witnessed the development of the association over the years. It has fully played to the functions of Headquarters. In this venue, AAM has organized relevant professional continuing development courses and lectures for local architects and the industry, and has received friends, including well-known architects, from the industry and from all over the world for exchanges and gatherings.
The purpose of “AAM Open House” is to commemorate the more than quarter century of the premises serving the association. On the other hand, understanding that in response to the needs of tourism and cultural development of Macau, AAM moves out and returns the premises in mid-March, to comply with the government’s use plan for the area.
