Dear AAM members,
As the year 2019 is coming to an end, I hope you all had a wonderful year on behalf of the Board of Directors.
I would like to congratulate and thank our immediate Past President Architect Johnathan Wong and the team for the excellent contribution to AAM for the past 4 years, and the leadership of Architect Ben Leong, Architect Eddie Wong and Architect Carlos Marreiros from the General Assembly, Supervisory Board and Fellowship Council.
It is truly an honor and privilege to serve AAM as the President of Board of Directors for the team 2019-2021. The Architects I most admire have all inspired me to become a better Architect and encouraged me to be active in the community. The past 6 years of serving AAM allowed me to recognize the importance of AAM’s role in supporting local Architect and community within the Macau Built Environment, to honor diversity and to design for humanity’s future, to build for a livable city.
Macau Architects Now
It has been a pivotal year in architecture locally and around the globe. Locally, the year 2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Macau SAR Establishment, the on-going progress works of New reclamation zones, the first Architect examination for Architect’s Registry and the recent announcement of the “Regulations for the Recognition of Practising Qualifications for Hong Kong and Macao construction and related engineering consultation enterprises and professionals in the Zhuhai Hengqin New Area” (“the Regulations”) that recognizes Enterprises and Qualified Architects who fulfill the stated requirements to practice cross-border in Zhuhai Hengqin New District. The opportunities and challenges for practicing professional architects in Macao is ever-growing and more demanding than we could ever have imagined.
Enhance & Broadening Horizons
As the President of Board of Directors for 2019-2021, I am committed to AAM’s mission to provide support and value to our members: to continue to strive for architectural and professional excellence, to provide opportunities for our member’s works and voice to be heard by a larger audience. Most importantly, through continual engagement with professional globally, allowing us to “Think Globally, Act locally”.
Our challenge is to leverage our limited resources and energy with effectiveness and efficiency by focusing on core missions that help in promoting professional excellence in contributing to the development of Macau and utilizing the unique advantage of Macao Architects in the participation of Greater Bay Area.
To achieve our initiative, our board aims to introduce CPD programme to incorporate heritage architecture related content, innovation and technology, as well as professional development. This will enhance our core competence and prepare Architects of Macao for future contribution in the Greater Bay Area as well as globally.
Moreover, it is also our aim to encourage interactions of young architect members and nurture local talents through information exchange with different associations and organizations in actively seeking participation in the development of Greater Bay Area. Our board shall be active in promoting the architectural profession and the importance of high quality architectural design on the built environment through visitation of different government bodies.
Moving Forward
For a sustainable development of the architectural profession, your active participation is essential for our full accomplishment. Hereby, I would like to encourage to all AAM members to let your voices be heard. All of our training, vision, and passion for the Macau city can be sources of inspiration to others and contribute to a better city of tomorrow.
I wish you all the very best!
Christine Choi
